Who does the Trustee work for, me or my creditors?

Neither. A Trustee is an officer of the Court and therefore should be neutral and even handed.

The Trustee does not work for you nor does the Trustee work for your creditors. Trustees advise you of your duties and obligations as outlined in the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act. They are not in the game to beat anyone up. The Trustee is there to make sure that both sides follow the rules and to administer the bankruptcy file.

When choosing a Trustee it is important to make sure you feel comfortable with the person you are dealing with.  It never hurts to come in and talk to someone. The regulations are the same no matter which Trustee you choose but comfort and understanding are important, especially when making difficult financial decisions.
