Who has access to my credit report?

Every time you apply for credit, you will have to give authorization by filling out an application form. By signing it, you have agreed to a credit assessment and gave permission to a business to examine your personal credit report.

Businesses or individuals who may access credit reports include mortgage brokers, bankers, car dealerships, retail outlets (if you applied for a store credit card or financing), and utility and cell phone companies. Others who may also use your credit report to evaluate your credit worthiness and reliability, would be potential landlords and employers.

As well, with your permission, any enterprise you currently do business with may access credit reports regularly to determine if your credit standing has changed.
